Predictions, prognostications and prophesies

2023 is the year we emerged from a Global Pandemic that completely reinvented the world as we know it.  Third party delivery, remote/hybrid work from home and a reinvented consumer have changed the way we live and work...and that changes everything.

 

Here are my predictions for what this means in some key areas...

Technology

The " I's " have it...

AI & BI are at the top of the list for IT pros.  Soft skills in leadership and communication are more important than the hard skills of zeros & ones.

Human Resources

Human becomes Humane

"Franchise Relationship" legislation is changing liability for franchisors.  "20 something" employees struggle with  job stress.

TOP TIP: Hire a Director of Wellness

Marketing

LTO's lead the way with IT's help

Driving traffic & transactions that reach the new consumer are key to gaining share of stomach.  IT knows how to reach them efficiently..

TOP TIP: Premium products rule.

Operations

It's all about people

Assuming you've got all the food & labor cost tools in place, never before has it been so important to recruit, retain and develop talent.  Give them a path.

TOP TIP: Don't expect Gen Z to change

Development

Right-size the box

The rise of delivery & take out means less seating.  Casual dining brands will need an "express" version especially in suburban locations.

TOP TIP: Let's get small.

Accounting & Finance

Offer solutions

Time to switch from just keeping score to offering solutions.  The talent pool for CPA's continues to decline - continuing education classes are critical.

TOP TIP: Get in the stores closer to Ops

It's been said that the only thing that remains constant besides death & taxes is change.  We've all had our share of life altering events and we've all altered our priorities accordingly. From the pandemic to parenting to politics, things are different and they're not going to revert to the way they were.  

 

It's time to take a lesson from the dinosaurs.
